Wrestle With The Word, so You can Boldly Engage The World.
Though I was born a Georgia boy, I grew up in Peru, South America where my parents were Baptist missionaries. Like most preachers kids, I spent the majority of my teen years getting into all kinds of trouble during the week, but every Sunday I would put on a good church face. I was really good at it, I had everyone fooled, even those who were close to me. The problem was, I got to the place where I just couldn’t live with my self anymore. I did not know who I was, I did not know what I wanted to be, and the life I was living was taking its toll.
At the age of 18, I began to wrestle with God about all the things is Word calls a man to be. To be honest, I did not like the things He said. I thought there was no way I could ever measure up to the standards and the requirements in that book, nor did I really want to. The reality was, God never looks for the qualified, he qualifies the willing, and at the time, I was neither. Fortunately, God was patient with me and put up with a lot of my nonsense. I had spent most of my adolescent life fighting against God’s Word and one night it got to the point where I couldn’t take it anymore and I finally submitted my whole life to Him.
Since then, I have spent the last 25 years serving in full-time ministry pastoring people to Him and His way. Though I may not like all the things God says in His Word, I love that book! I respect His Word, I wrestle with His Word and give my life to live out the things in that book. My passion in life is to help others do the same no matter where they have been, what they have done, or where they are at in life.
At Our River Church, we believe the Word of God should be accessible to all!
